In-Clinic Diagnostics

Smith Animal Clinic provides a wide range of diagnostic services for both small companion animals and large farm animals. Our in-house laboratory enables us to get results quickly so that we can diagnose your pet’s condition and start treatment which is especially beneficial for critical illness and injury cases.
Some health conditions may not be obvious during an external examination. For this reason, we conduct in-house diagnostic tests to get an accurate picture of your pet’s overall health. At Smith Animal Clinic, we recommend regular diagnostic testing so that our veterinarian will have baseline information about your pet. Having a history of test results lets us know if there is a significant change that indicates an underlying condition or disease.
Tests that we perform include complete blood counts (CBCs), the idexx snap test that screens for diseases carried by ticks, fleas, lice, mosquitoes, and flies, heartworm testing, parvovirus, fecal check, urinalysis, as well as checking progesterone levels.
The quick turnaround time of our in-house lab means that our veterinarian can give you a diagnosis and start treatment on the same day. That’s all the better for quickly getting your pet back to normal.
If you feel that something is not right with your pet, don’t hesitate to call and make an appointment with Smith Animal Clinic in Red Bay.
